For families and carers

For families and carers this is what we offer

Wheelchair and bus

Information for carers

We have an information library with literature on many of the life-limiting diseases, and plenty of information on sources of advice and support for carers.

Support to help you when accessing other services

We do all we can to help you get through the maze of information and contact points to reach the help you need, and where appropriate we will endorse your requests for assistance.

Emotional support

Our Family Support Team provide emotional support and counselling to carers as well as to patients, on a one to one basis as well as in small support groups. We also organise events to which carers are invited and at which you can compare notes with others in the same situation.

At the most difficult time, and on an ongoing basis, we can provide bereavement care for you.

Respite

Wheelchair at receptionWe recognise that periods of respite for carers are absolutely essential. During daytime working hours we can, under some circumstances, arrange a short home care session to provide you with a respite break.

Bereavement support

We will all experience bereavement at some time. It is a normal, though painful reaction to the loss of someone we love.

The support that people require as they grieve varies with the individual, and we provide flexible support in a variety of ways:

  • Telephone support
  • Individual support, with either our bereavement coordinator, a trained Bereavement Support Volunteer, or another member of the Family Support Team
  • Group support

Anyone receiving bereavement support will be registered at the hospice.
