Occupational Therapy & Creative Activities

As part of our holistic care, The Norfolk Hospice, Tapping House, recognises the effect that creative activities and occupational therapy has on patients.

Occupational Therapy

The purpose of Occupational Therapy within the Hospice is to help people maintain their independence and quality of life in the areas most important to them.

The Occupational Therapist (OT) provides information and practical advice in managing symptoms such as fatigue, breathlessness and pain.  This may include techniques which promote relaxation, conserve energy and help relieve anxiety.

The Therapist can also advise on equipment, assistive technology and home modifications to help with everyday practical tasks and mobility, to increase comfort and to provide reassurance.

Creative Activities

Creative activities within the hospice give people the opportunity to try new things or perhaps return to an activity they enjoyed but have not had the opportunity to continue.

Art groups meet on two days a week and patients work in a variety of different media.  Other activities include live music and theatre brought to the Hospice, reminiscence, demonstrations, flower arranging and craft-work.

Work created by patients has been exhibited and sold within the local community or turned into gifts for others.  People discover new or lost talents and find ways of expressing themselves that give great joy to themselves and to their families and friends.
