Pyjama Promenade
Martin Brundle witnesses a triumph for ladies in pyjamas and pink ponchos!
Prom Report: The Promenade event took place on Friday, 1st October, when ladies in pyjamas and pink ponchos promenaded the streets of King’s Lynn town centre to raise money for the Norfolk Hospice, Tapping House.
The rain was non-stop and, at some points, horizontal as they stoically completed the five-mile Pyjama Promenade. Formula One’s Martin Brundle started them off, after valiantly braving the rain to chat beforehand with Promenaders including Brundle’s Babes from Adrian Flux.

Pictures of the Prom: In spite of the rain, there were some great pictures taken at the Prom, and many of these are available from the website of Chris Holt Photographic. Pictures can be purchased from this site, and with every purchase, a donation will be made to the Hospice.
Dianne Rowe, Director of Fundraising for the Hospice said:
“There is something quite surreal about the sight of a hundred soaking wet ladies wearing pyjamas and pink ponchos, dancing in the rain and waving their hands in the air, whilst blowing pink whistles! We are so indebted to everyone who took part, including Martin Brundle and Waddo who provided the background music and commentary, with live music from Daisy Allington and Bradley Carr. Street-life gave two very energetic performances, even if their cheerleaders’ pompoms were somewhat soggy!
Amanda Standen, who has put a huge amount of work into organising the event, is already taking names for the next one! Most of all, we would like to thank the Promenaders themselves, who donned their best pyjamas, ignored the elements and really gave it their all on the night. Over £10,000 has been raised as a result, all of which will go towards the ongoing work of the Hospice.”
The Promenade's main sponsors: The Wrought Iron Bed Company from Dersingham led the Promenaders by pushing a completely soaking wet bed for a whole mile and Debbie Overland led a ‘Warm Down’ at the end to Reach for the Stars, after which McDonalds supplied cups of hot chocolate.
Next year's Prom: If you would like to put your name down for the next Pyjama Promenade in 2011, ring Amanda on 01485 542891.
