Virgin London Marathon - Sunday 25 April 2010

The Norfolk Hospice, Tapping House is delighted to announce that EDP's Virgin London Marathon team, spearheaded by former boxing champion Jon Thaxton, will be running the Marathon in support of the Hospice.

The athletes have begun their training, and their progress will be followed over the coming months in the EDP and on the EDP24 website.

Neil Featherby, owner of SportLink, the specialist sports shop at Taverham, and Norfolk's all-time fastest marathon runner, will be providing training schedules tailored to the runners' individual needs, as well as expert advice on everything from sports injury to nutrition.  Running gear manufacturer Brooks will provide the team kit.

Team members have set up sponsorship pages on the Just Giving website, enabling a secure and straightforward means of fundraising. In 2009 a massive £12,000 was raised for the Hospice by our London Marathon runners.  This year we are hoping to exceed this and raise at least £15,000.

The team

Jon Thaxton is a former British, European and world lightweight champion who retired from boxing earlier this year after a 17-year professional career.  Jon lives in Taverham and is aiming to run the race in less than three hours.

Stephen Pullinger is a sports-loving journalist who will be reporting on progress for the EDP as well as taking part in the event. Stephen is the veteran of at least thirty marathons! His target time is three and a half hours. Click here for Stephen's Just Giving page.

Stephen Harrington is an IT developer, based in King's Lynn. Powered by his great admiration for the work of the Hospice, Stephen just might break the three hour barrier in his first marathon. Click here for Stephen's Just Giving page.

Paul Ray is a police officer, based at Wymondham.  Like Stephen Wilkinson, Paul is running in the London Marathon for the third time. Paul does plenty of running each weekend as he is an FA football referee. He hopes to achieve a time under four hours. Click here for Paul's Just Giving page.

Neil Toll is a builder from Dereham, and keeps himself in a good state of fitness with regular running and gym work. This is his first marathon, and he hopes to put in a good time. Not long after the day of the marathon another big day will be coming for Neil, as his first baby will be due to arrive in May. Click here for Neil's Just Giving page.

Julie Barton is a busy mother of three and a teaching assistant, specialising in P.E., from East Rudham. This will be the first time she has run in the London Marathon. Click here for Julie's Just Giving page.

You can find more in-depth information about the runners on the EDP website here.

If you have a place on the Virgin London Marathon 2010 and would like to consider running for the Norfolk Hospice, Tapping House please contact the Fundraising Team on 01485 542891.  We'd be delighted to hear from you!
