When I retired, I found I couldn’t cope with it - I was used to being needed. It got to the stage where I was in danger of becoming depressed. Whilst out walking in Fakenham, I saw a sign in the charity shop asking for volunteers so I popped in, filled in the forms and away I went. Although I love living in Heacham and know many of the residents, it’s quite nice to be volunteering slightly off my home patch as you get to meet a different set of people. Then, through being kept up to date with volunteer opportunities at the Hospice, I have expanded my roles - most recently taking on supporting the Living Life Creatively Therapy Group where I can help people, perhaps, to tell their life stories through art and craft.
