What's happening News Books to fund patient’s care For 35 years now the village of Hilgay have hosted it’s famous book sales, drawing people from miles to browse and buy a huge selection of books to raise money for local charities. Over the last 16 years the Book Sales have been headed up by the local butcher, Ali Dent and his cousin Des and in that time the small village has raised nearly £100,000 for local causes. On Sunday 21st May the Book Sale returns to Hilgay Village Hall, this time in aid of The Norfolk Hospice, Tapping House. The event will run from 10 am to 4 pm and as well as a huge section of books, records, DVDs, and puzzles there will also be refreshments for sale and a raffle. Lyndsay Carter, Chief Executive at The Norfolk Hospice said, “We are extremely grateful to Ali and Des for choosing to once again support the Hospice. Thousands of pounds has been raised by the village of Hilgay for the Hospice over the years from events such as Hilgay Raft Race, Gnomefest and of course the famous Book Sales, all helping to provide care to people living with life-shortening illnesses.
