The Sandy Lane Friendship group consists of mainly ladies who have lived in and around Sandy Lane.

It was formed in February 2005 and has raised more than £8,500 for various charities.

The idea came after a friend's son suffered a stroke whilst playing football in 2004.

They meet the first Friday in the month, the hostess provides the tea and cakes or lunch if that is her preference and the guests all pay £5 for the funds.

Within the last few months it was suggested to hold a small raffle by one of our guests, she was so enthusiastic that we should raise even more money. Sadly she died two months ago but we will keep on with the raffle in memory of her.

They recently presented a cheque for £1,300 to the Hospice which is the largest donation to date to a charity since the group's formation.
