As the weather becomes cooler and the nights draw in people begin to think ahead to Christmas. Plans are made for Christmas parties, gifts are purchased and plans are made to meet with friends and family.  It can, however, be a poignant time when we think of those who sadly cannot share it with us.

Every year The Norfolk Hospice runs a Light up a Life appeal. Light up a Life is a series of special community appeals and events organised by hospices that take place around the UK during the festive period (usually in November and December).

The Hospice gives members of our local community the opportunity to remember those special to them this Christmas by dedicating a light on the Hospice’s Christmas tree, and/or making a donation in memory in the hope that this may offer some comfort. The Christmas tree will be brightly lit in the courtyard area of the Hospice in Hillington throughout December and people are welcome to visit to view it. A special tree is also displayed inside the Hospice to display hundreds of stars each containing personal messages from those remembering people this year.

This year the Hospice will once again host four Light up a Life events. The events are free to attend and open to everyone.  During the events people will have the opportunity to light candle and view the special Book of Remembrance which contains the names of all those who have been remembered in this year’s appeal.

Lyndsay Carter, Chief Executive at the Hospice commented,

Christmas can be a difficult time of year if someone close to you has died.  We hope our Light up a Life offers a special way of remembering and reflecting on the lives of those whose memory we treasure.

Anyone who wishes to make a dedication or would like more information about Light up a Life should visit the Light up a Life page on this website or call the Hospice fundraising team on 01485 601701.
