The Day Therapy team offer social and therapeutic support for people with palliative illnesses, and for their carers. Group therapy and Meet Up sessions encourage independence and self management, rather than fostering dependency. Our volunteers are key to this and you could help in one or more of the following ways:

  • Monday Morning Meet Up (MMMU) - an informal coffee morning, from 10am to 12pm (except Bank Holidays). Volunteers, supported by clinical staff, help patients take part in arts and crafts activities, board games, a quiz or just chatting.
  • Therapeutic Gardening - encourage patients to learn or continue a gardening interest. Sessions run for two hours....and you don't have to be a gardener yourself.
  • Circuit Exercise - circuit based exercises for patients to help them gain physical benefits like increased stamina or improved fatigue levels. You'll need a level of physical fitness yourself.
  • Living Life Creatively - help a patient explore new skills through creating something that's meaningful to them. It might be a woodwork project or another type of craft, perhaps creating a memory box, a scrapbook or a sound recording. Sessions last two hours.

All sessions provide opportunities for sharing experiences, worries, fears, accomplishments - and they offer the social benefits of making friends within the group and a chance to have fun.
