How We Help Compassionate Communities & Compassionate Friends Workshop A person living at home with a life-limiting illness may receive healthcare services for less than 5% of their day. A Compassionate Community is one in which everyone recognises how they can make the remaining 95% as fulfilling as possible. What is a Compassionate Community? Compassionate Communities is a growing social movement that aims to transform relationships, health, and well-being across the UK and beyond. Rooted in the public health palliative care philosophy, this initiative fosters collaboration among community partners, healthcare organisations, local services, and other hospices. By working with educational institutions, government bodies, businesses, and individuals, Compassionate Communities seeks to enhance skills and develop community-led solutions that promote healthier and more compassionate societies. At the heart of a compassionate community is the understanding that everyone has a role in supporting one another, especially during times of crisis and loss. The Norfolk Hospice Tapping House is a proudly independent charity, dedicated to providing exceptional compassionate care within our local community. We recognise that compassion exists in abundance within our local communities, and that together we can ensure that no one faces challenges alone. What do we want to do? We aim to make it easier to have those important conversations about death and dying so that people are better informed and able to make choices and decisions about what matters most to them. To create a network of Compassionate Friends across the areas where we deliver care. By dispelling myths about dying and bereavement, we aim to help communities become better informed and more confident in having these important conversations, ensuring that everyone can approach the end of life with understanding and compassion. To empower communities to support each other to live well until the very end of our lives, and to be prepared and enable a good death wherever possible. To work collaboratively across Norfolk and Waveney to share ideas and resources as part of a wider network group – Compassionate Communities Norfolk and Waveney Compassionate Communities East Compassionate Friends Skills Workshop What if everyone across Norfolk felt more prepared to help each other face serious illness, loss and bereavement?
